After suggesting it last year I think I might actually make one this year. A real one - I did have one hanging in my mind last off-season. Seems like that's where I do my best work...in my imagination! But think what a conversation-starter it will be when we have our post-holiday party and it's hanging on the 'frige when the guests reach for their beers.

Thanks, Wahoo! I like the spring training number better than the Opening Day number because it's closer! I know, Capt. Obvious here. But sooner is better, in my book. Besides, once spring training starts we can start rip....evaluating the New Guy's performance.

That's a good idea, tnun, since I :? so easily.

After my post I started to count...on my fingers. Is the "124 to spring training" actually too big? 124 days is roughly four months. But spring training usually starts with the pitchers and catchers reporting on Valentine's Day (or a day before or after, depending on the club) and that is in fewer days. Nov=30 days + Dec=31 days + Jan=31 days + Feb=14 days plus the last day of October=1. I'm coming up with 107. And if that's right, then even sooner is even better! One of you guys check my math, please. ;)

wahoo said the first spring training GAME, not the day pitchers and catchers report. So it's possible that ur BOTH right...

:D Sounds good! :D

Hey Wahoo, could you put up three numbers? Opening Day, First Spring Training Game, and start of Spring Training? If you do each entry separately you could really run the number up on this thread. ;)

More off topic: Did anyone watch the Iowa vs. Indiana game? Man, the refs were horrible. :x One of the announcers suggested that the Big Ten refs didn't want Indiana to win because it would take Iowa out of the running for the championship. :| It was horrible, though.

Iowa has had a ton of close calls that they just dodged. I don't think they're a number 4 team.

I suppose this should be in the football forum, but what the heck, I'm here. I flipped the Packers/Vikings game on while sitting here and heard them call the name of a Vikings LB: Clay Matthews! Yup, son of the Browns Clay Matthews. I read that he is just the part of only the second three-generation team of pro football players. His grandpa played for the 49ers. The other 3-gen family was the Pynes, FWIW.

Just read the bit about the trade on the famous Wiki! And started to think about how many times the Tribe has made trades similar to that but on a less dramatic scale. Unfortunately, the Tribe is usually playing the part of The Cubs in the scenarios. :(

I agree. Now they're just waiting for Texas to lose. However, that seems unlikely. Looks like it'll be Oregon and Iowa in the Rose bowl and Texas and the SEC winner in the National championship.

If OSU beats Iowa, I think they'll go to the Rose Bowl. I agree that it will be Oregon from the Pac 10, though.

tribenutupnorth wrote:To put it kindly, Ohio state is screwed. Their final 3 games are against Penn State, Iowa, and Michigan. PSU and Iowa are good this year, and OSU-Michigan is almost always a dogfight, even when one team is having a down year. OSU has to travel to Happy Valley and Ann Arbor, the two biggest stadiums in the country, I think. Beaver Stadium is notoriously loud and hostile, and Michigan stadium is a TON louder now that they completed the luxury boxes on the west side of the stadium. The Buckeyes would have to win out in order to win the Big Ten, because I don't anticipate Iowa losing to Northwestern or Minnesota

I'm not concerned about Michigan, it will be a better game than the last 2 years, but I think OSU will win it. Iowa has skated by in some close ones and their coming to OSU. Not an easy win, but I'm not predicting a loss. PSU will be a very tough one. Probably the best team in the Big Ten, and we're going to their house.

I'm not hating their chances, but that is one heck of a schedule to play in the last 3. Should be very interesting.

And now, for something completely different...

Dayton Flyers Preseason basketball starts tonight! I'm pumped for this season; the Flyers are ranked 21/22 preseason (the first time in a LONG time they have been ranked preseason) and have been picked to win the A-10. I feel as excited now as I did when I was in the Pep Band freshman year. It's going to be a great season!

If you want, post your favorite college basketball team. Or if not, that's fine too. Since this is kind of the "off-topic" thread anyway...

To the tune of "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall"99 Days Till Spring Training arrives, 99 days till it's here.
99 Days Till Spring Training arrives, celebrate - have a cold beer!

Oh... and I was wrong. Iowa lost to Northwestern...

And Penn lost. That was the biggest concern I had for OSU. Next up: Iowa.

Methinks you need to take a vacation day the next time Gary the Numeric Dude is "in the house". :P

How could anyone ever forget? It's a well-known fact that MICHIGAN SUCKS!, isn't it?

Actually, he might have been the hero of the 1997 World Series... except that Nagy gave up a hit and we lost... (I never did like Nagy... Totally overrated.)

But rookie Jared Wright had a fantastic post season and not just in the WS. He also was the main (pitching) reason the Tribe won the ALDS over the Yankees on the way to the WS.

To put it kindly, Ohio state is screwed. Their final 3 games are against Penn State, Iowa, and Michigan. ... The Buckeyes would have to win out in order to win the Big Ten, because I don't anticipate Iowa losing to Northwestern or Minnesota.
